ARTIST STATEMENT

Sarah Fine has entered a phase of self-exploration in her artistic life. Having recently retired from a long professional career as a graphic designer, Fine feels free to explore her creative visions, unencumbered by clients’ needs and deadlines. It’s a challenging yet very intriguing time for Fine. Painting and ceramics are now her new avenues of expression.

Sarah Fine loves color–vibrant and subdued, patterns and textures. Fine’s art-world inspirations include the Impressionists, the Fauvists, and Frida Kahlo. Nature remains a muse for Fine, an endless source of inspiration and awe. Fauna and flora—cats, birds, creatures of all sorts, flowers, and plants—always make their way into my creations. After years of working with digital tools, Fine’s work has become sculptural, incorporating acrylic paints and inks, textural pastes, clays, and mixed media. At the same time, Fine remains a student of ceramics, intent on bringing the visions in her head to life in the third dimension.
