Make New Friends but Keep the Old

Make New Friends but Keep the Old

We agree that change is good, but it is always hard to say goodbye to long time members. Founding members Linda Jerome, Claire Duren and Fran Richards vacated  their studios at the end of June. Linda will be working out of her new home studio and Fran and Claire will be retiring from full-time art making at Sequoia. Paula Smith-Danell has paused her membership, but has graciously offered to volunteer at the gallery. Martin Conley, Sue Swain, Evelyn Fritz, and Eliat Avivi will also be departing to pursue school and/or other projects and interests. We will miss them and wish them all well in their new pursuits.

Sequoia welcomes new member John Gibson. John has moved his photography studio into Studio #10. His work is currently on display in the gallery.

Painter Victoria Shepard will be returning to Sequoia after a two year hiatus. Victoria was a founding member of Sequoia and also served on the board as president and past-president. We can expect to start seeing both Victoria and her work at the gallery this summer.

Please join us in welcome both John and Victoria!

Laura Wilson and Gayle Pedemonte

The city of Hillsboro offers the Picture Hillsboro competition annually to select an image that will represent the characteristic landscapes and people of Hillsboro, Oregon.
Sequoia members Laura Wilson and Gayle Pedemonte are two of 12 finalists this year.
Their work will be on display February through April in the Shirley Huffman Auditorium, along with the other finalists.

It includes the Sequoia tree that stand watch over the Washington County Courthouse. Gayle Pedemonte, an accomplished oil and pastel painter, entered her impressionistic composition entitled, “Foggy Morning at the Bus Stop”.

The selection of winning artwork will be made toward the end of February.
