Hip to Be Square Recap

This year, Sequoia’s annual invitational show, Hip2BSquare, focused on area high school students. Our president - Barbara Mason, applied to the Cultural Coalition of Washington County, and received a $1500 grant, to provide scholarship entry fees for high school students. Beginning Book Binding: Exploring the Japanese Ledger Book


The Japanese Ledger Book is a fairly easy book to put together. Once the design is understood, the size can be adjusted to personal preferences. Students will work with basic bookbinding skills: measuring, cutting and gluing of paper. We will learn to do corners and perform some easy sewing to bind this book.

Well, now's your chance to have a taste playing with alcohol inks. You don't have to be an artist at all!

#221, Introduction to Silk Painting - Cheryl Cameron

This workshop will be an introduction to silk painting using the serti technique. We will talk about technique, using resist/gutta, color application and blending, salt technique, setting the colors and all that good stuff in plenty of detail. You’ll paint a handkerchief to get used to the process, and then an 8 x 54 inch scarf. I’ll borrow your pieces to set the colors and get the finished pieces back to you a few days later.

Ages: 15 to adult (under 15 with a parent)

Whether you are an artist, collector, or someone who just appreciates fine art, you can help Sequoia by volunteering to help staff the gallery. Gallery staffers serve 4 hour shifts on the days of their choosing, depending on slots available. Volunteer applications are available online or at the gallery.
