Every spring, we open our gallery to member and non-member artists of all levels of experience for our annual community exhibition, Hip 2B Square. Everyone, from the beginning artist to the seasoned professional, has the opportunity to unleash their creativity on a 12″x 12″ canvas or wood panel. A wide variety of art styles and mediums are represented in the exhibit including, 3D sculpture, mosaic, mixed media, painting, and assemblage. The only requirement is that the art work fit within the boundaries of the canvas or wood panel and that sculptures not exceed 12″ in height.

Our 2018 show promises to be especially exciting. Sequoia received a generous grant from the Cultural Coalition of Washington County that enables us to waive the entrance fee for Washington County high school students. The students received a free canvas and will be eligible for prizes in the 2D and 3D categories. With the participation of the high school students we expect the exhibition will include a record number of participants this year.

The participants, some of whom are showing in a gallery for the first time, benefit from the enjoyment of participating in this community show. Sequoia benefits as well; the funds raised from the event help Sequoia continue to bring quality art and art programming to the community throughout the year.

Don’t forget to pick up a ballot and cast your vote for your favorites! Voting for the People’s Choice Awards begins on Tuesday, April 3 from 10am to 7:15pm. Awards will be announced at 7:30pm. Award categories for this year are for Best 2D Artwork, Best 3D artwork and Best 2D and 3D Artwork 18 years and younger. Prizes have been generously donated by Dick Blick Art Supplies, Christina Massocco and Kathy Gilbert.
