$75 for all six classes

Join mixed media artist, Pat Krishnamurthy (Sequoia Studio #2) for a fun and fearless, six week course in Beginning Mixed Media Art Journaling. Pat will share her “toolbox” of materials and techniques for creating depth and interest in your journal pages. In the first class, you will make the pages of your journal. You will then learn techniques for creating interesting backgrounds that eliminate the fear of the white page. In subsequent weeks, Pat will provide creative inspiration for your journal pages while teaching you how to layer materials to create complexity and depth. By the end of the class, you will have finished a covered, multi-page, loose leaf, visual journal filled with your thoughts and ideas. You will have also learned a wonderful new way to relax and “go with the flow”.

Instructor Provides: The instructor will provide consumable and reusable materials such as: scissors, foam brushes and brayers, gesso, matte medium, acrylic paints, art papers, scrap papers, old magazines, stamps, stamp pads, stencils, pastels, crayons, colored pencils, permanent ink pens, metal binding rings, and chip board for journal covers.

Student Purchases: Students are requested to purchase paper in advance of the class: 1 – 3 sheets of 140 lb., cold pressed, watercolor paper, in 22”x 30” sheets. We will tear the paper into smaller sheets to make the pages of your journal. Please choose the number of sheets to purchase, depending on the size book you want to make, using the following as a guide:

For a 5” x 7” journal = 1 sheet tears into 18 pages
For a 7” x 9” journal = 1 sheet tears into 9 pages
For an 8” x 8” journal = 1 sheet tears into 6 pages 9 (with a fair amount of wastage)
Odd sized pages may be created by dividing the sheet of watercolor paper evenly into 8 or few sections.

Optional Materials: Students are welcome to bring copies of personal photographs, favorite poems, quotations, and their personal collections of papers, imagery and other ephemera.
