#207, Urban Landscape Demonstration – Robert Schlegel
Robert Schlegel will demonstrate how he uses acrylic paint to develop his striking urban landscape imagery. Sequoia Gallery and Studios is thrilled to partner with Bob to bring this free event to the public (to the first 30 people who register at Sequoia). Bob will show the techniques he uses with a variety of tools on different surfaces, such as boards, canvas or paper. This demonstration at Sequoia will be on canvas or panel with acrylics.
Bob describes his work saying, “I attempt to present my interpretation of the objects and forms found in the environment. Of particular interest to me are man-made structures juxtaposed into this landscape. The interaction of shape, contrast and line are what intrigue me and I attempt to transform these images into the compositions of my paintings.”
Classroom space is limited. Please be sure you can attend before you register to reserve your spot. This better ensures that Sequoia can accommodate all who are interested. After 30 people have registered to attend, there will be a waiting list in case of cancellations. Please contact Sequoia Gallery + Studios,503-693-0401, Tues-Sat 10 am – 5 pm.
More about the artist:
Bob also does Solar Plate print-making and sculpture (assemblages). His work was recently featured on the Oregon Public Broadcasting’s show “Oregon Art Beat”. In that program he describes artistically chronicling the deconstruction of Centennial Mills from Portland’s waterfront. He shares about his general approach to seeing, drawing and painting and talks about the series of sketches and prints he developed on the theme. You can also see him at work on large acrylic paintings that employ bold lines, broad planes, interesting shapes, and dynamic color: http://www.opb.org/television/programs/artbeat/segment/painter-robert-schlegel/
