Dear Prospective Artist-Member:

The Hillsboro Visual Art Association (HVAA) appreciates your interest in joining the Sequoia Gallery + Studios organization. Formed in 2008, our nonprofit organizational mission is to bring fine art to the community through various events, exhibitions, and educational programs and provide a place for artists to create and show art. We seek artists and artwork that is intentionally diverse and of high quality. To ensure quality art is displayed in our gallery and studios, prospective members must submit images of work to be juried. The work you submit should be original, recent, and similar in quality to the work in our gallery. 

Applications for new ARTIST MEMBERS must include the following items:

  • We are a community of artists, and want to get to know you. Please indicate your interest in becoming a member via a letter of intent. Reduced membership fee’s are available for matriculated students, please indicate such standing in your letter.

  • Please provide your artist statement (150-300 words) about your art practice, process, and what you make.

Membership commitments

Membership Commitments

When a membership opportunity becomes available, artists are selected as Gallery members from the waiting list.

In addition to paying a yearly membership fee, artist members must work two four-hour shifts per month and pay a commission on their sales in the gallery.

You are also expected to participate in one of the working committees: Education, Marketing, and Exhibitions.

We offer members one featured artist show every 12 to 18 months, where the three artists participating in the show share the cost of any food, beverages, and entertainment for the opening of that show.

Studio artists are required to be active members of the gallery. Studio artists must work a minimum of 8 hours per week in their studios and be open to the public 8 hours per month during gallery hours plus one evening per month (First Tuesday Reception). Studio artists only pay commission on artwork sold from the gallery, except during occasional building-wide events.

Fees: $360 per year, as 2 payments of 6 mo, $180
Gallery Commission Rate: 25% on all gallery sales.
Hours Required: (2) 4-hour shifts per month in the gallery. Artists renting a studio are required a minimum of 8 hours per month open to public visit, Plus all First Tuesday receptions.
